Windows XP schedules threads using a priority-based, preemptive scheduling algorithm. Its scheduler ensures that the highest-priority thread will always run. The portion of the Windows XP kernel that handles sheduling is called the dispatcher. The dispatcher uses a 32-level priority scheme to determine the order of thread execution. Priority are divided into two classes. The varaible class contains threads having priorities from 1 to 15, and the real-time class contains threads
