What are the purpose of operating system and its functions?

Operating system (OS) refers to controlling and managing the hardware and software resources of the whole computer system, and reasonably organizing and scheduling the work and resource allocation of the computer, so as to provide a convenient interface and environment for users and other software. It is the most basic system software in the computer system.

1. Manage computer resources, including CPU, memory, disk drive, printer, etc.

2. Provide a graphical interface, as we described earlier, which provides a bridge between the user and the computer.

3. Provide services for other software, and the operating system interacts with the software to allocate any necessary resources for its operation.

4.Make all resources of the computer system play a role to the greatest extent, provide various forms of user interfaces, enable users to have a good working environment, and provide necessary services and corresponding interfaces for the development of other software.
