The location is said to be ideal for year-round observation. ​UCLA astronomy professors Rene Ong and Vladimir Vassiliev are playing important roles in an international initiative to build the world’s largest and most sensitive high-energy gamma-ray observatory, the Cherenkov Telescope Array. The array would consist of two large groups of telescopes located on separate continents. Ong will help develop the science plan for the two prospective sites.
