Cornell History: Cornell opens October 07, 1868 Cornell University opens. Initially divided into two parts – the Division of the Special Sciences and Arts, and the Division of Science, Literature and the Arts – Cornell welcomed 412 students and 26 professors. In his opening address, President Andrew D.
