Cornell History: New Deal designer is born May 11, 1891 Henry Morgenthau Jr., Class of 1913, is born. He was U.S. secretary of the treasury under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Part of his legacy was the “Morgenthau Plan” that stripped postwar Germany of its industrial strength and prevented it from becoming a military threat.
