Cornell History: Architect Owings is born February 05, 1903 Architect Nathaniel Owings ’27 is born. He was a founding partner of Skidmore Owings and Merrill LLP, one of the largest architecture firms in the world, and was considered an expert on skyscrapers. Some of his projects include the Air Force Academy Cha- pel (1962), the John Hancock Center (1970) and Sears Tower (1976).
