Cornell History: Automated alumni communications July 21, 1914 The University Secretary's office has installed an "addressograph" system to send literature out to alumni for $2,000, saving great time and expense. One machine was used to stamp metal cards with the name and address of each alumnus; another addressed the material to be sent. Formerly names and addresses were kept in a card index file, and addressing by hand the envelopes to Cornell's 30,000 alumni meant months of labor for the entire staff of the office.来源(Source From):
