Cornell History: Stick with Harry March 06, 1917 Harry W. Coover, M.S. ’43, Ph.D. ’44, is born. A career chemist at Eastman Kodak, Coover was researching ways to make clear plastics when he accidentally invented cyanoacrylate glue, or super glue. During the Vietnam War, he developed a cyanoacrylate spray that could be used on wounds to halt bleeding. Coover was awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 2010 and held more than 460 patents by the time he died in 2011.
