Cornell History: Flying Ace dies February 02, 1919 Leslie J. Rummell, Class of 1916, dies of pneumonia in France. He was one of four Cornellian pilots to be named flying aces in World War I (out of only 71 Americans). (A flying ace is a pilot who shot down five or more enemy aircraft.)
