Cornell History: WWI service April 08, 1920 Cornell creates the status of “war alumnus” as a way to solve one of the academic problems raised by World War I, reports the Alumni News. The status was given to students in good standing who dropped out of their classes to enter the service and were prevented from graduating, including those who were killed in action.
