Cornell History: Willard Straight Hall opens November 18, 1925 Willard Straight Hall opens. One of the country’s first student unions, the Gothic building is a memorial to Willard Straight, Class of 1901, a major in World War I who died of pneumonia in Paris three weeks after the armistice. The building’s woodcarving, ironwork and stonecutting were the finest available. According to University Historian Morris Bishop, Straight’s widow, Dorothy, “believed that beautiful surroundings conduce to the making of admirable characters.”来源(Source From):
