Cornell History: Ivy editorial October 03, 1936 The student newspapers of Cornell and what are now the Ivy League schools (excluding Brown) simultaneously ran a joint editorial titled “Now Is the Time.” The editorial presented a proposal for the formation of an "Ivy League” to preserve “the ideals of intercollegiate athletics,” but a month later, the schools’ athletic directors jointly rejected the proposal. It wasn’t until 1945 that the “Ivy Group Agreement” was signed, forming the Ivy League.
