Cornell History: Edmund Ezra Day inaugurated October 09, 1937 Edmund Ezra Day is inaugurated Cornell’s fifth president. Day led the university through World War II and the boom years afterward. During his presidency, new departments were established, including sociology and anthropology, and the College of Engineering program trained 30,000 for the war industry. Cornell also opened the New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the School of Business and Public Administration.
