Cornell History: Malott inaugurated September 19, 1951 Deane Waldo Malott is inaugurated as Cornell’s sixth president. He served from 1951 to 1963 overseeing the most extensive period of building in Cornell’s history, with more than $100 million of construction. It included new campuses for the Engineering, Industrial and Labor Relations, and Veterinary schools. The athletic program was expanded into one of the largest intercollegiate programs in the world. And research became a group effort, ushering in the beginning of “big science.”
