Cornell History: Harlem Renaissance writer dies April 30, 1961 April 30, 1961 Jessie Fauset, Class of 1905, dies. Profiled in the book “The 100 Most Notable Cornellians,” Fauset was a prolific novelist during the Harlem Renaissance and served as literary editor of the NAACP magazine, The Crisis, under the direction of W.E.B.
