Cornell History: A long way for lunch June 07, 1962 Seventy-year-old Jesse Hyde, Class of 1917, leaves his home in Binghamton, N.Y., at 7:30 p.m., walking to Ithaca to join his classmates for lunch at Reunion the next day. He arrived at Barton Hall at 1 p.m., where he was met by a brass band and the undisguised admiration of his classmates. “What took him so long? If any 70-year old thinks he can walk 55 miles any faster, Jesse Hyde will be happy to put him to the test,” reported the Cornell Alumni News.
