Cornell History: Wari House attacked April 18, 1969 The residents of Wari House, a cooperative housing black women, awake to the sound of a fire alarm at 2:45 a.m. Unlike the 11 other false alarms that went off before and after, the alarm was triggered by a 2-by-4 foot crucifix burning on the house’s porch and a rock thrown through a lower window.
