Cornell History: Students occupy Barton Hall April 22, 1969 Nearly 5,000 students occupy Barton Hall in support of the Afro-American Society’s demands, which included amnesty for African-American students who had engaged in a previous protest and the establishment of a black studies program. The events prompted decades of social, cultural and political change on campus.
