Cornell History: Rocky renames college April 28, 1969 Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller signs a bill changing the New York State College of Home Economics to the New York State College of Human Ecology. The change reflected the college’s academic and theoretical orientation and its concerns with problems of human welfare. Dean David Knapp stated: “The time is now at hand to direct past traditions of problem-solving toward a new focus.
