Cornell History: Women come of age May 16, 1972 The faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences authorize the formation of a Women’s Studies Program. During the 1971-72 academic year, a group of female faculty members had laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the full-fledged interdisciplinary program. Women’s Studies was renamed Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies in 2002.
