Cornell History: Remote library access November 01, 1989 Remote access to library catalogs becomes available online for the first time. Faculty, students and staff with home or office computers had access to half of Cornell’s total holdings acquired since 1973 – 1.7 million titles. Four libraries (Mann, ILR, Hotel School and Mathematics) even provided information as to whether a book could be found on the shelf or if it was out on loan.
