Cornell History: Rawlings inaugurated October 19, 1995 Hunter R. Rawlings III is inaugurated the 10th president. He served 1995-2003, implementing a vision for "composing Cornell”: organizing the diverse parts of the university Cornell more effectively. Among his accomplishments: launching the Residential Initiative to transform campus residences into living/learning communities, and setting strategic scientific priorities in the life sciences and engineering.
