Cornell History: Equine EMT July 21, 1996 Dr. Michael Ball, a medicine resident at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine, acts as an "equine EMT" to horses competing (with their riders) in the triathalon equestrian event in the summer Olympics in Atlanta. He was stationed miles out into the field for the most grueling part of the three-day event - the cross-country obstacle course - as the horses jumped over logs and ditches and sweat off as much as 10-15 liters an hour.
