Cornell History: Lighting of the Cows December 05, 1996 To help put the Ithaca community into the spirit of the season, the Cornell Dairy Bar spreads holiday cheer with “The Lighting of the Cows.” Dennis Miller, chair of the Department of Food Science, flipped the switch that officially lit the rooftop display, featuring four specially made wooden cows pulling Santa Claus in a dairy tanker. A press release quipped, “Moooooove over, Rudolph!”
