Cornell History: McGraw Tower pumpkin October 08, 1997 A hollowed-out pumpkin appears atop McGraw Tower’s spire. The prank attracted international attention for months. For safety reasons Provost Don Randel was scheduled to retrieve it via crane in March 1998, but workmen testing the equipment accidentally knocked it down.
