Cornell History: Skorton inaugurated September 07, 2006 David J. Skorton is inaugurated Cornell’s 12th president in a lively and colorful ceremony – replete with poetry, music and song – on the Arts Quad. Skorton’s address, which included three musical interludes, wove together themes of dance and optimism and served as an expression of his kaleidoscopic experience. A cardiologist, computer scientist, national leader in research ethics, and jazz musician, Skorton came to Cornell from the University of Iowa, where he had served as president.
